First thoughts on Music player:

I’m an unlikely convert to mp3 players as I have lot of vinyl which I still play almost every day. I would like a life where I could use one of these on my commute but sadly no.

I love not having to have a separate player/headphones and I don’t mind the compromises that go with it. It also means one less charger when I travel (2 if you count my camera battery pack).

I do, like the music player on N95 it has some nice features compared to my old phone.

  • Sound quality: The N95 sounds good on head phones and by tweaking the equaliser loud enough for commuting (and my mutton ears). The twin loudspeakers aren’t too bad, all right for listening next to a bed in a hotel room etc I may yet get a set of folding portable speakers. The ear phone buds you get with it are fine.

Switching between views i.e. “album”, “song” is easy.

  • It recognises window media player playlists. I use media player mainly because Nokia’s own music interface in its old form was rotten (it hung up all the time and was just rubbish so I stop using it).
I-tunes is rubbish as it won’t sync with my phone (I only use it to subscribe to podcasts).

The main downside to windows media player is that is doesn’t recognize (I-tunes format tunes even though my phone does) and so I have to use the larger mp3 files.

  • It’s also not so good at recognizing more obscure cd’s. I get the feeling with some my more rare Scandinavian groups I’m first person to look for details/cover art. Cover art in general is arcane ritual

One big difference is that with podcasts if a ‘cast is part played the player returns to the position on the track you left at. This is very useful as with my old phone I was always jogging the controls mid show and missing the last 10 minutes. Why you can’t simply scroll through tracks I don’t know?

It sounds good through my Hi-fi and comes with a good set AV inter-connects , which can also connect to a telly.

One nice feature is “Most played” option.
Which as of now for me are?
1. The tracks of my tears By Smokey Robinson and the miracles
2. Cologne Cerrone by Goldfrapp
3. Vulnerabilia by My Computer
4. Fill My cup by My Computer
5. Create your own psychosis by we are soldiers, we have guns
